Day 2: Mandara Huts - Horombo Huts Elevation: 2,700m to 3,720m Distance: 11 km Hiking Time: 6 hours Habitat: Moorland Continue through the forest into high moorland, marveling at towering plants like giant lobelia and giant groundsel. Day 3: Horombo Huts - Kibo Huts Elevation: 3,720m to 4,720m Distance: 9 km Hiking Time: 6 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Embark on a slow trek through moorland, gradually climbing towards the alpine desert zone. Cross the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo before reaching Kibo Huts at the base of the Kibo crater wall. Prepare for summit day with an early dinner. Day 4: Kibo Huts - Uhuru Peak - Horombo Huts (Summit Day) Elevation: 4,720m to 5,895m to 3,720m Distance: 21 km Hiking Time: 13 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert to Arctic to Moorland Embark on the challenging trek to the summit around midnight. Ascend in darkness with headlamps, experiencing extreme winds and temperatures. Reach Gilman’s Point for a magnificent sunrise over Mawenzi Peak.
